Everybody writes

Hello, writer. Yes, you!

Are you a blogger, marketer, or content writer? If yes, you might be interested in the writing tips from digital marketing pioneer Ann Handley. Simply put, her book Everybody Writes is the recipe for writing better in the digital world. I find it practical and love the tips and tools such as this title maker.

Pathological empathy makes you write well

I can write well for people like me as I know my needs. Yet, I feel difficult when writing for people who are different from me. Because I’m not naturally empathic, I will have to force myself to get to know other’s habits, needs, and goals. Understanding others takes effort to figure out why they behave and feel that way. Spending time with the target audience is essential to write well.

Find a writing buddy

Finding a writing buddy or a good editor is like finding a life partner. It may be difficult. But, it’s rewarding to have one. I’m still looking for a writing buddy. Let’s connect if you’re looking for one too. How do I self-edit? After developmental editing and line editing, I use an editing tool to make my writing more concise. I will check readability and grammar, and make sure it sounds natural. If you’re interested in great writing tips, check out On Writing, Writing Comedy, and The Element of Style.

  1. I like the fact that you give us the best book recommendations from time to time. For me, I have a loving and intelligent sister who edits my cornerstone content and I cherish our relationship daily.
    Thanks for sharing Helen.

    1. I’m happy to share! It’s so lovely you have a sis to help. ❤ I wish I have one too. I'm happy for you, Eromonsele Emmanuel ❤ Also, thanks for your support! I'm grateful to hear from you each time. 😀

  2. That book sounds interesting. Writing is like stretching! I see it as a craft, an art and something more serious. However, I usually stay away from writing editing apps. I tried one last year and it messed me up at some point. Despite that, they can be useful for straightening out sentences.

  3. Great post, Helen. I’m going to get that book. It sounds fabulous. It also would make a great gift for new bloggers. Thanks for stopping by Always Write. Marsha

      1. Ordered. Have a great week. Let me know if you host any writing challenges. I’m doing a series of interviews with people who host writing challenges. 🙂

  4. I believe that if we are unable to reach out for the target audience, reading specifically about them, watching movies on them and reading about different personality traits and types can help, right?!

  5. Hello Helen,

Thank you so much for following my little blog. It’s nice to speak to writers, cough like myself. To date I’ve written two books considered to be, by some, as masterpieces of feline literature, a title I like and might use for my next book.

Over the last few years I haven’t had time for writing books because I’ve been writing scripts for animated movies, I could list them but it sounds too much like bragging.

As soon as I can find the follow button, which usually and literally follows one around blogs I’m going to press it which will be cool, I’ve never had my paw on a button before.

I do hope that you have a brilliant weekend and stay safe.

    1. Hi John,
Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to your next book. It’s brilliant that you write scripts for animated movies. (Send me some links lol)
Have a happy weekend and stay healthy ❤

  6. I have found that tutoring can be a nice way to network for a writing buddy. Your editing editing ability would be quite useful in a college library tutorial setting

  7. I love this idea. One of my dreams is to be a published writer. I just started writing chapters on my blog. Feel free to stop by and provide feedback, if you like. The story is called Taxi Driver. What I had posted is my first draft of it, so it isn’t a master piece, yet. But I hope it can be one day. 🙂
